As we near (or surpass) retirement age, our life is filled with changes and transitions. One such transition is how we view insurance, and what insurance we need.
Now, most people are probably not thinking about insurance. They’re thinking about their health, their freedom, their job, their travel, and more. That’s one reason to reach out to an insurance agent (hi!👋 ) to help navigate these.
But it is still important to think about how insurance can change. For example:
- Life Insurance – If our term life insurance expires, our overall life insurance needs may decrease, because we no longer have an income we need to replace. However, we also may need to consider permanent insurance options, so that we can still have life insurance as we get older. You also have to consider your assets and how you want to pass them to heirs.
- Long Term Care Insurance – Most of us will need long term care, and to afford long term care, we need long term care insurance. You’re expected to get long term care insurance in your 50s, but, depending on your health, it often isn’t too late to get it after you retire.
- Medicare – You’ll be switching from traditional health insurance to Medicare around this time. But do you know which plan? Do you know what pharmaceutical needs you have? These not only change when you make the switch – they can change every year as well.
These are only some of the many examples of ways our insurance needs change a lot during this time of transition. In your 20s, 30s, and 40s, most insurance is straight forward. But as we get older, these needs change often.
